Use Modbus RTU/TCP for meters, basic VFDs and building controllers. Use Profinet when you need isochronous I/O, device-level diagnostics in TIA, or safety via PROFIsafe. Mixing is normal: PAC3200 on Modbus, G120C on Profinet, both under one S7-1500. Beglaz will not invent a protocol conversion in chat — ask for a gateway SKU if you need one.
